Fire Hydrant Locks
As you drive around the ranch or look out at the fire hydrant by your property you might notice something new on top of the fire hydrant. PMMWC has had a lot of unauthorized access to our fire hydrants, and they are getting damaged by the people who are operating them. It is a federal offense to operate a fire hydrant without the water companies’ knowledge or in an emergency situation. PMMWC does not allow any construction water or outside water through any of our fire hydrants. Not only is it theft of water but can also contaminate the entire water system with a backflow incident. PMMWC has chosen to lock all fire hydrants to protect our customers drinking water. All emergency responding agencies have been notified and have been given the keys plus proper training on how to remove them in case of an emergency. After doing maintenance on all fire hydrants this spring this will ensure the hydrants are ready to go during an emergency. If you notice anyone tampering with a fire hydrant, please call 801-641-0111 and press #1 for emergency. If you can capture a picture of the license plate and vehicle Summit County Attorney’s Office will prosecute. Nobody is allowed on the fire hydrants unless it is a PMMWC employee or responding emergency services.
